Start with safety first.

Brakes, research some of the common and cheaper front disc kits.
Inspect/replace wear items like ball joints, control arm bushings, tie rods etc. Get some good Tires and decent wheels. GOOD tires can make a HUGE difference in handling.
Guldstrand Mod. (Free)
Shocks (good ones, Edelbrock IAS, Koni, Bilstein Etc.)
Springs look at packages like Hotchkis, lots of bang for the buck (don't bother with a rear sway bar for now)

Research research research. Use the search feature here on the topics and products I mentioned, also over at pro-touring.com

make plan, a budget and try and stick to it. Ask lots of questions. The only dumb questions are the ones that have been answered 5,000 times in search and the ones you don't ask.

Welcome aboard, have fun and share some pictures!

The pro-touring theme generally means, Big brakes, Big motor, big wheels, sport car handling suspension. Those are the big items. The little items you see around are; Power windows, shaved body panels, tubs, tinted glass ect.

Pick your upgrade the falls within your budget and save for the next one.
if it were me, I would choose wheels and brakes. Brakes and wheels are big eye candy and they improve the function of the vehicle.

There are many brake kits on the market, since you want the pro-touring theme I would go with Wilwood or Baer.

Check out http://lateral-g.net Lots of great folks with pro-touring cars.
