I am ready to puchase a set of headers. I have a 68 with BBC and a 4 spd. I want a set with 1 7/8 tubes to 3 inch collectors. Which brands does everyone run with a BBC 4spd set up? How do you like the fitment. I have a manual steering box too.
Thanks, Matt |

I'm using Hooker Comps with my ZZ502, TKO600 and power steering.
2" primaries full length and 4 inch collectors. I followed all Hookers application notes including using BB frame stands only from Rick's First Gen and they fit great other than ground clearance...my front end is lowered a bit so I've bottomed out on the passenger side one a couple times...ouch! I'll probably switch to shorties at some point in the future.... Tim

The engine is a 454 with oval port heads "292" casting, Edelbrock RPM intake 10.5 to 1 compression, not sure on cam yet (looking at a hydraulic in the 280 duration 550 lift range). Backed by a Muncie M20 and 12 bolt with 3.73 gears. I do not want to go to big on the primaries. I figured 1 7/8 was enough 2 inch might be OK but no bigger. I want to stay with 3 inch collectors to mate with my current 3 inch enhaust. What brand fit well with out to much modifing with BFH.

Matt,
There are a few manufacturers to choose from with Hedman and Hooker being the mainstreams. I went with Hooker Comps. As long as you use the correct/recommended frame stands and motor mounts, you should't have to BFH anything. It'll get tight around a PS box, but since you have a manual, you'll have more room. If you have factory A/C, then there will likely be interference with the A/C box. I removed mine. Also, your collector does not need to be 3" to connect to your 3" exhaust. There will be a reducer that bolts to the collector and the reduced end (in your case 3") will weld to your exhaust tube. I have a 4" collector and the reducer takes that to my 2.5" Flowmaster exhaust. Tim

I'm running an automatic and power steering. I also have a 454 with Dart Pro-1 Heads. I went with Hooker Super Comps 2'' primaries. REEEEEEAL tight around Flaming River PS Box. No dents, dings or scratches. 16 hours worth of work.

Do a search on the site: "Hooker 2205"
That's the brand and part number that I believe to be the best fit and I've tried several. |

I have the Hooker SuperComp 2205s (2" primaries, 3.5" collector) and they fit perfect. I'm using the original BB frame brackets. I'd recommend you use the GM motor mounts that you can still pick up for around $70-80 ea. I tried replacing my originals with the ones Ricks sells for 67/68 BB and they caused clearance issues with the PS box. I bought the GM ones and they worked perfectly.
Drivers header had to be installed before the engine. Pass side could be slid up from underneath after engine was installed by jacking the car up. Only somewhat tight area is at the steering box. Plenty of space though. 67 SS396 TH400 Stock Power Steering/Column Stock Manual Disk brakes |

Fit great. Just like others say....drivers side is harder to put in, pass side falls out on the ground when unbolted. Mine are 9 years old, and still look good! Ron
