first set is a set of bowtie heads that just got out of the shop about a month ago, he got a 3 angle vavle job and re did them then he has 2 sets of double humps that run 6:50's on his 350.... my heads are 882's...hes no longer asking $50.00 anymore so ill have to see what his new price is..are they worth upgrading if they around $100.00 from my 882 ? |

I figure that you need to think about three things here!!
1. Do you really wanna stay w/ the old double-hump heads if the price is right vs your -882's? You will gain at least a full point of CR tho!!! 2. Do you wanna spend some extra money and go w/ a complete Vortec head topend?? You will gain the same CR as the old double-hump heads and they flow much better, but are limited for future growth.... AND 3. Save up about the same money as a complete Vortec topend and buy better, larger, can grow a bunch, aftermarket heads!! Cast-iron OR aluminum!!! pdq67 |

I'd say go for it man!!....By "it", I mean the double humpers!......Sounds like an excellent deal!.....Have they been reconditioned?.....Do they have the 2.02/1.60 valves, not that it matters?.....You'll definitely feel the difference for sure and you should be able to get some decent burn outs! |

A valve job around here costs $170 and up. So the heads will be more than that. I personaly would not spend a dime on double humps. You can get the vortecs that use the older intakes.

Another thing to consider is if the double humps have accesory holes or not. I believe that the newer model ones did. If it were me, I would save up a little and buy something aftermarket like a Dart Iron Eagle, or a Pro- Action(now RHS).
Unless the old castings are fresh and ready to go, you will be close to the cost of an aftermarket head in parts and machine work to make them ready. Been down that road before! What are you intentions for the car later down the road?? |
