Any of you guys install/erect one of the prefab metal garages? I'm looking into building me one, and I would like to get some thoughts/ideas. I'm currently looking at
http://bradleybuildings.com/mightysteel.htm They are out of Georgia. I like their building due to them not looking like a steel building. The metal siding looks like vinyl, which will keep me from having to do some other type of siding in my neighborhood. They also have the nice overhangs/eaves. I'm thinking about a 30x40, insulated, with roll up doors. Thoughts/suggestions? |

I like it. Looks high enough for a lift too! Wonder how good the insulation is for northern climates.

I have a building that looks a lot like the one you posted the link to. If you do a search you will see some pictures of it on this site. It went up fast I has insulation sprayed inside and then I finished the interior walls with steel. It is over 100* outside right now and I was just in the shop, it is much cooler inside than it is out. I don't think that would be the case if I didn't go with insulation. I am pretty sure that building is the same as mine. I also agree go as big as you can. Oh, I am VERY happy with mine and would do again. It's a lot cheaper than wood and has a 20+ year warranty.

Moisture can condense on the interior surfaces. Cold outside and warm inside so keep this in mind.

I have a 40 x 60 similar to this. 40 wide is as wide as you can go without center supports. My insulation is the thick roll type with plastic lining. The trusses came in two sections and you just bolt them together at the center. The sides look similar but the sheet metal is different. Two 10' roll up doors put in each end as a drive in one end and out the other. Cars can be brought in one of the doors and put on the other side with no problems.
I put this bulding up myself and know the tools it takes. Its about 6 years old now and at that time, the slab and stemwall cost as much as the building. If you are doing it yourself you save big but will need several tools and a lift of some kind to put up the roof trusses. I used my tractor. Go Bigger. Tom |

yup.....the only problem I have with my metal 30 x 60 is the skylights sweat ALOT when the weather gets cold. Allthough the light is nice, I would forego them if I were to do it again.
