Default Should I let go of the gas?

I have a TCI turbo 400 tranny with a B&M quick silver shifter. Should I let go of the gas when I shift between the gears?

Anyone know the gear ratio inside my tranny? I currently have 3.08 gears in the rear. Just wondering if I should swap them to 3.55.

Thanks
Oliver

Let go of the gas??? Why?? You have an automatic transmission. Your final ratio is 1:1.

if not mistaken the first gear ratio is 2.48, but jake can confirm...you shouldnt need to dump out of the gas to shift...as far as gear selection, it depends on what you are trying to accomplish...3.55 will get you out of the hole better, and is still ok for hiway use, as well as 3.73 as long as you arent planning on going cross country at a high rate of speed...going into the 4.xx ratio will bring you out of the hole much better, but youy hiway driving will suffer...we run 3.89 in our 9 inch with a th400, and its kinda obnoctious at 80 mph...you could also dump the 400 in favor of an od...that`d be my choice...

Yeah with an automatic, just stomp it and let the tranny shift or manually shift it but you won't be doing your trans any favors by letting off the throttle for shifts.
As an experiment, put the thing in drive (if its not full manual) and run it down the 1/4 at WOT. Note where the trans shifts itself at WOT.

I have a T400 that is not full manual and I manually shift it. Once the car is hooked up and assuming its not getting squirrely, I weld the gas pedal to the floor and just shift.

If you wind up 1st gear, don't get off the throttle without shifting. 1st gear won't like that much.

Car kinda lurches when I shift so I thought I was doing something wrong.
Thanks for the info guys.
