got this reply from DjD on my post about here - Topic: 69 ss rocker panel black out? (with pic?) "you have the L6 (6 cyl) hockey stripes (solid paint through the 396 emblem's). When the previous owner had mine painted they used a kit and shot them not knowing the supplier sent them the wrong ones..." i looked at other pics of ss's and see that most of them do have a break in the stripe where the 396 is. i looked at npd under the stripe and stencil section and saw no option for 2 different hockey stick stripes. i'm just wondering if the guy who painted the car (Ray Charles - not to handy with a spray gun, but boy he sure could sing) screwed up and if there really are 2 different stripes (in which case he still screwed up). i bought the car already painted with numerous defects, but wet sanding the clear coat and a friend very handy with a buffer turned a 20 foot car into a 5 foot car. please call attention to any other things that or wrong (i know the rocker panel should be black, but with the white stripe i sort of like it better all orange). see pic by clicking on my signature or other rocker panel post for more details. thanks!!!

Same stripe...just have to trim around engine numbers for SS models. The stripe is supposed to be broken on SS350 and SS396 cars.
Per the 1969 Assmembly manual - D90 "stripe to be continuous when used with L-6 engine". With an SS, it was to be broken 0.30" above and 0.27" below the side marker opening in the fender. |

I'm thinking about having mine repainted before this spring. Thanks for reminding me about the stripes. Your car still good great.
