My son in law picked up a set of centerline wheels that need the clearcoat removed and replaced. Short of removing it abrasivly, is there a chemical stripper that will not harm the alum. but still remove the damaged clearcoat? Thanks in advance, Jay

You could try a rag soaked in MEK (Methyl Ethel Ketone) on a small spot ? Maybe Naphtha ? Just use extreme caution with static electric,the fumes and skin contact.
If it works (should, we cleaned parts that way in Mfg. of powder coating) you could soak them for a few days in a sealed container.

Pick up a qt can of Methylene Chloride IF you can find it!

Should take it right off!!

Aircraft Remover is available at most parts places. I've used it on Fikse centers. Didn't damage the alum. but it is slow.

By any chance did you contact Centerline and ask if they would recoat them for you?

Blasting with PLASTIC media may do the trick as well. That usually takes any paint/coating off but does not affect the parent material.
