I have just purchased a 84 Z28, its a 4 barrel carb and its gutless. i wanna change the gears in it. i was told it had 3.55 gears in it. i also have a 92 camaro its a 305 and it has the 3.73 gears in it. will the rear end assembly off the 92 , fit on the 84? thanx

Should work just fine. The 3rd gen gears were all the same I believe. All of these rears were also weak as they were the 7.5 10 bolt.
don't look for much of a change however from 3.55 to 3.73

There was no 3.55 in any of the 3rd gen Camaros, so it will probably be the 3.42. You can find out by checking the RPO tag on the bottom side of the console lid. It will be a 3 digit code starting with a G. If it is a 3.42 it will be code GU6. If it has the limited slip differential it will also have the code G80. The 3.73 gear is code GT4.

It changes your mechanical advantage. The car its self does not make more power.

Not all. The 5.7L cars got a 9 bolt BW rear that's pretty strong.
