Default Big Block moving ?

Does any one know about how much a big block motor with heads on it weighs in pounds? Wondering if i can muscle it into the truck myself off of the cherry picker. Or with the heads off.

The engine weights about 700 pounds. You will not move it unless you do strongman lifts. Good Luck

I must be missing something here, if its on the cherry picker just back under the motor and let it down into the truck.

If you do have to lift it don't you will blow a n*** and spend more in doctor bills.

Get a big old tire and then sit the engine in it in your bed w/ the Cherry picker, then put the C/P in and go!!

DON'T try to lift it in by yourself!! WAY TOO HEAVY!!

I have moved my BB down a rental Cargo Van's aluminum furniture dolly ramp mounted on my engine stand b/c the rear wheels cleared the sides and the front went right down the middle of it.

I used a cheap HFT come-a-long and a 2x4 across the Cab opening and some rope to pull the BB and engine stand up the ramp!

Yep just sit it on a tire or a 4X4 under the balancer in the rear corner of bed. Tie it down real GOOD.

heavy at 700lbs for sure.I unloaded my long block without a cherry picker.I slid it out on the tailgate(after installing new tailgate cables I might add)and attached the motor stand.I deflated the rear tires..untill the motor stand took the weight and rolled it into the garage.Closed the tailgate and aired the rears back up to 32psi.

even if you were a professional powerlifter, the engine is way too awkward to lift you would never get a good enough grip

I lowered my BBC onto my 2000 F-150 tailgate and it smashed the tailgate down. You can't see it from the outside, so I added a bed liner to hide it.
I took the tailgate off to get it out.

As was suggested earlier, back you're truck under the picker and lower engine into truck.
IF, you do try to move the picker with the engine swinging (operative term here!) from the boom, make sure you lower the engine mass to the lowest position possible before you try.

I admit this is hard to believe but I know a guy that used to pull small blocks out of cars by HAND.. No cherry picker. Just reach down over the front and pull it out. They hated him at the bowling alley to because he threw the ball hard enouth to break pins. A bare small block is all I want to lift.
