my car won't start and someone told me to check the key resistor cause it might be dirty

Danny..The most common failure is in the column.The lock cyl rotates and the orange Vats wire flexes and breaks over time,causing an open ckt.You can remove the steering wheel and visualy check this or get a gm tech to hook up a vats interrogator at the base of the column.You can measure your key pellet resistance with an ohm meter then disconnect at the base of the column and with the key in ignition..measure the resitance.I bet your dvom reads OL.

Can a resistor be placed in the harness plug to allow starts prior to replacing the ignition lock cylinder?
