I would suspect between 180*F to 200*F, however, a trip to 210*F is occasional.

It will be interesting the poll of answers.

Dill..i would run it hot enough to burn of crankcase water vapor.Oil temps are typically hotter than coolant temps after a complete heat cycle..so regulated coolant around 190 should have the oil over 212F to vaporize condensation in the base.I would say for coolant temp..my max would be 230F.Creeping up to 210-215f in traffic is not desireable, but should not create any issues if the temp returns to 200F and under at cruise.

I "really like" my hot rod motors to run at 180, maybe 190... If they run hotter I'd consider it something that needs fixing.

Truthfully tho, it ain''t gonna be hurt till it's over 230.

I have had an insight on automotive cooling systems. Something I always knew in pieces/parts but never added it all together into a realization.

The biggest problem and the biggest reason for variance in car cooling systems derives from the fact that they rely on speed induced airflow to compensate for incredibly undersized heat exchangers. Think about it, cruising down the highway your car is only using about 50 HP. In fact I've worked on lots of industrial 50HP engines that have radiators 50% larger than a cars.

Idling in traffic at 220° is a result of the engine working it's *** off to pull a vacuum against the throttle blades while lugging a torque converter, alternator and AC and PS.... and low air flow through a radiator that couldn't accomodate a 50HP stationary load.

Put a bigger radiator and fan when in doubt

This is a little 900HP heat exchanger. Top is water, bottom is gas.

My 427 sometimes burps antifreeze after I stop. I have idiot lights on mine and the temp light is usually if I start up after a burp, but before it cools (like if I stop for gas). The light goes off within 30-45 seconds of driving, even at low speed. Since the light is on in these conditions, I figured it wasn't a bad thermostat or rad cap. Any advice?
