Hey guys, I am finally getting to my LS1 swap I have been wanting to do since I bought my 69 (May of 07). I was originally wanting to use the entire chassis harness out of the donor car, but man, thats a friggin nightmare! Now all I want to do is use only what it takes to make the engine run.

So, I found this here on TC.........

This helps a TON! Now that I have this article, I have eliminated about 80 to 85% of the chassis harness. BTW....most of that harness in a 99 Z-28 Camaro is audio and lighting.

I also wanted to share a few pics of the harness of before and after. I don't have the after pics right now, but I will soon enough.

Very nice. That'll be an awesome combo that'll still get 25MPG on the hiway. I love those accesory fuse box setups. We usually end up cobbling up stuff with aftermarket parts (and our own) on these first gens. Having accessory relays, breakers, and fuses available to power add-ons will really be handy...but you'll have to reverse engineer the wiring and adapt it to your needs. I'm sure you have some good schematics to refer to.

Yep, that looks VERY familliar. At this moment, I have nearly all of what you see in the pic eliminated. I would now say more like 90% of the harness. I have figured out what I need and don't need to make it run. All it takes is time, but you know, thats what a winter project is for.

I'll try and post pictures as soon as I can. It's a huge difference.

You can get 98 (I drew them with help from G-Body at LS1Tech) and 99+ retrofit schematics here:

Chris....EXCELLENT!!! Thanks a bunch. I found some schematics somewhere here on TC long before I just saw the ones you just linked me to. I did print them out. When I looked at them, I know the 99 harness so good now that the 98 just didn't seem right, but then I looked a little deeper in the thread and found the 99 model.....printed it out and it looks like it's right. Now I will go recheck everything just to make sure I don't burn anything up or catch my car on fire.

Yes, I think I have most of the wireing done, but I still need to work on guages and one or two headlight relays, but other than that, it's done already.

Now, don't you guys laugh at this, but here is what I made up. I took the factory fuse panels (two of them), pulled every connector, fuse, relay and wire out of them, and competly rewired to suite my needs. I havent completly tagged all relays and such, and I even named a few incorrectly, but that will change. I also glued them together and made a mount for them to mount it all under the dash.

I think that's a great idea! Where will you mount that beast?

I am still reworking mine a bit but here's a pic of it in it's "raw" form. I made a bracket that it clips to, and then mounts under the dash inline with the e-brake cable. When mounted its up and out of the way. All that is exposed are the tops of the relays and fuse's. I also made it so it can be unplugged from the harness and not hardwired in.

Chris....that is fantastic! Looks really good. LOL....looks like you were one fuse slot to short. I like the idea of it not being hardwired in. I might have to work that into my plans.

Where am I going to mount it? Well, since I am going thru the forewall with all 75 wires (yes I said seventy-five wires) on the right side of the firewall, I will most likely be mounting it directly under the wiper housing.....don't know if thats the correct terminology, but there is a good flat spot under the dash just behind the ash tray that I think will be a good spot for it. This way it is close to the computer and will be a little easier to get the main power cable to it. It's the brass lug you see on "relay Box #2". That cable will be coming right off the starter so it shouldent be all that bad.

Yes, one fuse slot too short....hmmmm...that would make a great country song
Those fuse boxes are the same as Painless' boxes. I bought them at Autozone super cheap. I only found them as 4 slots each. I'll probably add another box to accommodate the fuel pump fuse(the loner), headlight motors, a/c, etc, since they clip together and I have plenty of room where they are mounted.

And I reside in "H town"

Chris, how is your project coming? Mine is coming along great. You might have seen my other thread of the LS1 first startup. If not, look HERE.

Ok, I got everything mounted up. I have a few pictures of that below. If anyone was wondering, I have a peice of rubber between the compter and the body, so there should not be an issue.....I hope.

Anyway, this is the best I can do with the funds (very limited) that I have. Hope it serves someone else down the road.

The name of the grommets are called "Seals-It". I bought them from Summit. They are kinda pricey, but they serve well.

I empathize on the wiring. I installed Accel DFI a few years back and I was overwhelmed (at first) by the amount of wires, lol.
