What can by used to remove undercoating (Asphalt based) and not damage the paint beneath.

Want another way? Get yerself a Wagner Heat Gun. It turns the stuff into butter and it scrapes right off. Then just clean up with your choice of solvent. I did my entire underbody in a couple hours, not including the wheelwells.
