Default BBC 468, which EFI system

Hope to get some feed back on my latest project.I have a 468 BBC with the following specs:

9.8 to 1
781 heads stock port configuration
steel crank
edelbrock dual plane intake
comp. cam kit/ don't have specs in front of me but its for towing
Idle vacuum no load is 16 inches
idle vacuum in gear at idle 14 inches
timing set at 10 degrees @ idle and idle rpms are 850 to 900

This is going my tow pickup which is a 87 SWB 4X4
originally SBC fuel injected
has 4:10 gears
35" tires A/T
Turbo 400 trans with a TCI 2200 converter with balloon plate

I've ran the truck with a 750 holley set up pulling my camaro and its stout.I was looking at the Edelbrock E3562 MPFI system with the 670 Holley TBI for intake throttle control.I've read this system will work with the existing ECM.

With the 750 holley with out a trailer I can run into the converter and this thing will light up the 35"SSR tires.I'm wondering with this system will do as well as the 750 holley or would it be a step backwards as far as its compatibility? Also who has the best price and support of course. Thanks

I have no information on weather the Edelbrock will work with the factory ECM. Seems far fetched though. I am no expert on the The Edelbrock system, but I know it comes with a calibration module and has no external tune ability. Sometimes the calibration module works, sometimes it does not on a given motor. I do not like the fact that all the Edelbrock systems I can find have 44LB injectors which are more suited for 550HP, 36LBs would probably be better, suited for closer to 450 horse which is probably still a bit much for your motor, but not nearly as over kill as 44LBs. You do not want to run injectors that are too big. The Edelbrock would be the absolute entry level injection set up. And it may work fine, but each motor is different and I would not bet on any injection set up work perfect for any motor out of the box.

The next step would be a Holley Commander, FAST XFI or a Accel Thruster Wide band system. There is tune ability there and that you will not have in the Edelbrock. Hook it up to a laptop and tune it. My choice for even money would be the Accel because I like the system, the dash board, and most importantly, a there is a excellent chance of finding a expert familiar with the Accel. you can find plenty of FAST experts also, but Holley experts are going to be few and far between.

Cost wise it stacks up like this

Edelbrock $2400

Holley Wide band $3450

Accel Thruster $3800*

FAST XFI $4600**

All these kits are complete conversions including intake, T body, Injectors, Fuel rails, Fuel Pump, ECM harness, etc

* Thruster package includes dual sync Distributor for potential sequential operation, Coil, and 6 ignition box

* XFI package includes dual sync Distributor for potential sequential operation,

My rating is

1 Accel (screamin deal, unlimited tune ability and incredibly complete)
2 FAST (Good stuff, price is up there, still needs a ignition box and coil NOT INCLUDED)
3 Holley (Good stuff if you can get it tuned, needs a distributor, ignition box and coil NOT INCLUDED)
4 Edelbrock (personally, i would not do it, to limited tune ability)

BTW. I sell all 4 systems, so you can feel sure your ARE NOT getting a finacially bias opinion.

Oh yes the Accel can. Both systems have dual sync distributors for sequential operation.

I would go with the edelbrock efi system for your application as it will be a direct bolt in!
And they have good support and the price is right and you have driver adjustable calibration.AND IT IS A COMPLETE KIT!

I went with the XFI so I can add larger cam,4 stages of NOS,water/meth injection, procharger, or turbos later in life. This was for my small block, which I had an issue with, so i just slapped all the XFI parts on the 502 Ram Jet my Dad gave me. XFI is Easy to Tune! I bought the tutorial DVD.......you have the options to tune XFI in three catagories ...Easy,Moderate, or Advanced which I went for...., Great Support form FAST Tech.
I am waiting on a call for a Dyno session as we speak... P.S. I am NOT in the automotive business!

XFI is a direct bolt in, they will make YOU a wiring harness specific to your vehicle, you can also have 3 preset tunes...however, you have to stop, turn off the car, and flip the switch to change the tune from say...daily driving to drag tune, to Drag tune with NOS.
I also purchased the FAST Digital Dash touch screen to use as my gauges and monitor of air fuel ratio, tach, shift light, speedo, fuel pressure, brake pressure, oil pressure, DATA LOGGING, ect. I also bought the new FAST Dual sync distributor.
XFI also takes control of your Fans, power to your Fuel Pump, etc. I can't think of anything it won't do !! The new XFI box EVEN has Traction Control!
FAST Really has it going on where the competition can't even come close to the tuning, monitoring, and data logging of your engine, tranny, fuel system,NOS, Boost, etc.
Again, I am not in the automotive business! I just did all the research before I spent my hard earned cash!

Trying to learn as much as I can about the different EFI systems as I want to make this conversion in the future, so excuse all my upcoming questions:

How does that compare to the other EFI systems by other manufacturers?

My understanding was that the Holley system you could change tunes "on the fly" without shutting down.

Can any of the systems make tuning changes on the fly?

Thanks

most of the aftermarket efi systems can make tuning changes on the fly; FAST, Accel, Holley, BigStuff3, etc. But to load a completely different saved tune for any of these you'll have to stop the car and cycle the key to load it.
