This is a dumb question...but I have to make sure.

The paint seal gaskets get installed on the inside, right? I've seen cars that have had them on the outside, and the gasket is sticking out on the edges of the sidemarker lights. Which one is it?

And they're installed dry, correct? I'm usin the sponge type that most repro houses sell.

I think they can only go on the outside. You can trim off the excess so that it doesn't show.

your thinking regular gaskets. I too believe that they would go on the inside. because you WOULD want the area of contact to be painted also, (like the taillight frames) but wouldnt want the inside of the trunk painted..

but I guess it would depend on application...

Silver, nothing to get too excited about. There is no "correct" way to do it from a restoration perspective. The factory never even used them. They are aftermarket accesories. You are free to install them any way you like.

Reference: uniform parts classification 12, sheet A2 of the factory assembly manual. I love to learn something every day.

P.S. - definately not a dumb question.

I'm lost here, which gaskets go inside? Inside the trunk for example, on the side maker lamps???? On the rear tail lamp bezels??? I don't get it.

Orench, sidemarker lamps do not get gaskets from the factory. The tail lights have gaskets. I hope that clears it up.
