I have a '68 Camaro that was purchased wearing a coat of Delstar silver acrylic enamel that is probably 20+ years old. The car was last driven in 1982 and had seen the inside of a garage for quite a while. After washing and waxing the car, I noticed that the paint was still incredibly rough to the touch and had very little sheen even in direct sunlight. I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to safely bring a shine to her coat again. Wetsanding? buffing? special wax? anything? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

With a single stage metallic paint you do Not want to wetsand & buff as it will alter the metallics. Your best bet aside from repaint is what you've already done wax. I know some people that have scuffed the whole car (lightly) and applied a clear cot, but as far as I'm conserned if you do that you might as well repaint the car, because you still run the risks of metallic streeking and any chips would still be visable. Sorry you can also do a light machine buff without wetsanding this will probably bring alot of shine back. I would recomend that you have a professional shop do it though as they should know when to quit before the color looks funny. Sorry for the second post its just I don't use single stage very often(and when I do it not usually on the exterior), so it took a little thinking. I'm sure there are other sugestions from members that use single stage more often.

The roughness might be imbedded dirt. Try using one of the Clay cleaning compounds. It is cheaper than repainting.
