wondering whos running a big block and commander 950. what hood are you guys running, im looking to run a L88 hood. possibly something in fibreglass. Im aware "unlimited fiberglass" has two styles, a standard L88 and a scaled down version. I have seen others out there as well.
so whos running one, hows your clearence with a given air cleaner and where did you get your hood. Im running stock Big Block motor mounts by the way. ![]() Maurice |

Honest, Maurice. We're not ignoring you. It's just that we're not quite sure how to tell you this. We don't know what an L88 hood is. Honest.

lmao @ Fred...
An L88 hood looks like a vette big block hood, C3 style.... probably fiberglass and wide open underneath. Was hoping someone who knows would chime in... but I don't "think" it will be a problem. Are you talking a Holley MBFI, or a stealth ram? The MPFI will fit, the throttle body is an inch shorter than a carb. Stealth ram should be ok too, but I don't know that for sure.

ok, I was starting to wonder tho..lol. I guess I figured most guys out there knew what an "L88" style hood was, so much for assuming . ass-u-me is how it goes I think.
I will post a pic of the L88 style hood along with my intake setup so their is no additional confusion or assumptions...LOL thz guys this is the L88 style hood, not my camaro... this is the smaller style L88 hood as offered by "Unlimited Fiberglass" It's only for reference, I think I'll need the full sized L88 hood as it is 1/2" or so taller. ![]() This is my Projection 2 / Commander 950 Intake setup for Big Block chevy. standard height, no spacer plates etc

That system is short, considerably shorter than say, a perf rpm with a carb on it.

Hey! I remember those hoods! Thanks Maurice.
![]() P.S. Ah, one thing Maurice,,,,,,, can I suggest a better photo background than a dumpster, in a storage lot, with bricks for brakes on a dirt lot, with a green snake? Are ya trying to hide that stuff in the back seat? Our cars deserve a little more respect.

not my car in that pic Fred.. It's just for reference. LOL! however... I do think I see a mustang "IN" the dumpster.
yes 56pu I have seen that carbon fiber L88 hood and it is the size and style im considering. though,I will not be buying any hood for $850, thats insane. I realize and admit it appears to be a very high quality piece. I do have some "hands on" experience with carbon fiber and have found it more susceptible to damage that I had expected. I'll do just fine with the fiberglass as I will have to modify the underside for an air box assembly anyway. Jim M mentioned the the commander 950/Projection 2 setup was considerably shorter that a Performer and carb setup. Im not disputing that but im also not so sure. I know the throttle vale is shorter than any carb but im thinking the intake is quite tall. I dont know if my pic does it justice, but it is an airgap "style" single plane design with a raised plentum. again im not out to argue and I appreciate all the imput, I just would like to see some one actually running this setup with an L88 hood. I'd feel alot better buying a hood then. |

The intake is very tall. I'm GUESSING you'll be ok with that hood and a std drop base air cleaner. I have a friend that put one on a vette and milled a little of the top of the intake.

thz Doug,
I may be in a bit of a dilemma, I cant really run a dropped base air cleaned due to my throttle setup, I had briefly considered that in the past. I have been tossing around the idea of intergal "in hood" air cleaner setup. it would basicly seal similarly to standard cowl induction hood, but with the actual air cleaner element installed within the hood itself. |

I'm sure you can come up with something that will work. From a few chassis dyno tests I've done, a small air cleaner doesn't loose as much power as you'd think on a 500ish HP engine.

Thanks. I missed that. And good place for a mustang.
