I have a set of 69 Camaro drum front hubs with a loose bearing race in one of them its the outer race. Is the hub junk or can It be saved? Its going to be used in a C6 Z51 brake swap. It is already machined, the machinest did the work and then told me about it. I need it to get the car home from the body shop anyway. It will be trailered, any help would be appreciated.

Drum brake hubs are readily available. I would not waste time in fixing the old one, but it can be sleeved by a good machinist to fit the race.
Hubs are on most every GM intermediate car, those with a 4.75 bolt pattern. Novas, Chevelles, Skylarks, Tempest, etc. Full size is 5.00 inch bolt pattern.

I would look for a replacement hub, they are not reproduced as far as I know. The machinest may be able to center punch it to hold the race for a while, but long term you need a better fix than that. Locktite sells a product that can hold the race pretty well, but I'd look for another hub.

How loose are we talking about...does it just spin freely with one finger or does it fit kind of snug but can be spun with a little effort?

If it doesn't spin like a top, I'd clean everything GOOD using BrakeClean and let dry and get some JBWeld and put a daub all around in the hub.
Install w/o touching anything w/ my fingers that always seem to have a natural oil on them. I don't want any oily fingerprints on anything to upset the JBWeld is all... Let her set up over a couple a days and go!! JBWeld does some things other stuff just doesn't seem to, imho.. pdq67 |

Old school shop I used to work at that happened occasionally. The fix was to take a punch or small chisel and score the inside walls of the hub where the race seats. Drive the race in like you would normally, the scoring gave something for the race to "bite" for lack of a better term...Worked every time!
