Default 396/375 hp BBC engine value? L78

I am selling the complete 396ci engine carb to pan from my Camaro and have no idea what it is worth. I am dropping in a new motor.

It is a 396/375 hp block with mild wolverine cam, velonia pistons, and edelbrock thunder 800 carb, stock chevrolet manifold and heads. Engine runs strong and is being sold while still in car. I have all receipts on the build, and documentation. Motor was built less than 10k miles ago. Block has code "TO724JH"

Any ideas on what a fair price would be?

What heads are on it. That sounds cheap to me especially being able to hear and see run. i would thing you should be able to get 2500.00 pretty quick.

$1800.00 is extremely fair....Whats the casting numbers on the heads and block? Date codes? Cam specs? Compression?

Block stamping says T0724JH

According to the guide that means this is a 396 375hp block from a 69 Camaro or Chevy II am I right?

L78?

I've yanked the Craigslist ad until I find out out what the story is with this setup

Is this the original engine for your car?? If so, you may want to re-think selling it!

My car is a 69 Z28, the DZ block is long gone and it was converted to a BBC car two owners ago.

July 24 1969 JH,nice!! Post the vin number, the vin will be down by the oil filter.I see you edited the original 396/350 post to say 396/375 .If thats true,4 bolt mains,11 to 1,forged steel crank,840 heads, motors worth way more then $1800.00!! Hell my machine work alone on one of my BB motors was way more then that.

According to all the documentation I have, compression is 10.5:1 with the velonia pistons. I've got a pretty extensive file on the build. I need to pop off the valve cover to identify the heads I guess. Intake is original snowflake.

I thought I had lost it...Originally you said 350hp, and I thought your pricing was low, but not way off. (figured you were looking for quick sale)
L-78 is a whole new ball game. A set of 840 heads is worth $ 1500-2000. JH block is worth $1500, 6221 crank is worth $300, 163 intake is worth $300.

Add to that you have a rebuild, running engine, and I'd say it's worth $5k.

PS JH is for L78 w/manual tranny

Thanks for the numbers. Looking around on ebay looks like you're spot on.

Seems theres a lot of guys asking some outrageous amounts for the blocks as well. $3500 just for a block

Didn't this post say 350 hp originally? I just sold a set of 840 on ebay for 1400.00 I would say that is a deal at 2500.00 if it is a 375 hp jh motor.
