Has anyone tried to drill the ashtray rivets to seperate the face to plate the 'tray'? How did it go back together? Did you use regular rivets?

In addition to the 2 rivets which appear to be 1/8", it is also spot welded at the lip, in 2 places....It could be accomplished but it would be a little tricky separating it at the top lip or folded area without ruining it.

It took a little time, but I just taped mine off and painted the tray and then the front separately. Use a toothpick to work the tape down into the cracks.

Thanks for your input.
I wasn't sure how it was fastened along the lip. |
