Default how much for a hockey stripe on an SS?

the SS I am looking at has a great hugger orange paint job, It looked 10 times better in person and I was very pleased; only problem is, it doesn't include the hockey stripe. I have learnd that all SS cars came with the hockey stripe. When they came from the factory, was the hockey stripe added on top of the base color or "etched" inside it. (probably not the right word to use... ) how much would a really good stripe cost and would it wind up looking too "New" on the current paint?

One half of it was painted over the color and the other half was applied vinyl, but I can't remember if the painted part is the door or the fender. There is a guy on ebay that sells a correct stripe, ALL vinyl and it only costs $49, very nice quality, a friend of mine bought one and is very satisfied. The original configuration is also available from many sources, that is half vinyl and the other half is a stencil/template for painting the painted portion. Frank.

Hey Mark - The factory painted the stripe on the front clip, but then applied vinyl to the doors after the front end was attached to simplify alignment. I also bought a beautiful SS, only thing missing was the stripe. I had a really hard time finding someone to paint the stripe (I also chose to paint the door portion, an option with the kits available). They were all concerned about a “mistake” like overspray etc. The other disadvantage to painting a finished car is; you can’t clear over the stripe (assuming BC, CC paint). If you have better luck than me finding a painter, try below for the kit. He supplies to many of the other resellers, is a really nice guy who will offer 1st hand any help you need. Brian
