i got a set of 17 inch wheels with 5 and 5/8 backspacing as recommended by my subframe manufacturer. everything clears just fine except the molded ridge on the hoop of the wheel runs into disc calipers and tie rods. what the wheel manufacturer did was instead of mounting the five star peice to the molded ridge which i beleive is why its there at all they flipped the hoop around backwards to get the custom backspacing i asked for. this leaves the ridge at the back of the hoop and gives me a giant pain in my ***. they told me thats industry standard. anyone know

We need more information! What wheels - subframe - most important spindles? If the spindles are "dropped" that is the problem for sure. Therefore you would need to go to larger diameter wheels 18s or 19s maybe or you may have to use a wheel that is narrower. Let us know what you have.

Are the wheels "flat lipped" or dropped lipped (which means the hoops are reversed). That would explain what you're trying to describe as "they flipped the hoop around backwards to get the custom backspacing i asked for".

Could you post a picture so we can see what you're talking about. DSE is a great vender and they are on top of their game so I would think something has to be "wrong" if what they told you to use doesn't work. Did you call them and ask?

the hoops are reversed. im not sure if there flat lipped or dropped lipped? its that raised mounting ridge in the hoop that normally would be on the outside of the car. its on the inside and everything runs into it

"Old school" wheels like Torque Thrusts are stepped lip - new style wheels that look like the diameter is larger than what it is are flat lipped. Sounds like that's what you have. I think you need to call DSE and tell them what's going on and see what they say. It sounds like a wheel style issue from what you're describing. You can also go over to www.pro-touring.com or www.lateral-g.net and post this. There are lots of cars on those sites running DSE sub frames or hopefully Frank from Prodigy will be a long soon and can help. He sells most of the major sub frames so he may have run into something like this.
