Anyone shipped a bare block lately? what's the shipping weight of a SBC bare block? Also what does a crank weigh?

One of the guys over on MadMike's great SGCOG site, NastyZ28 has a weight if you want to ask over there.

He spent a BUNCH of time weighing everything he could get his hands on and making a big table for reference.

I forget his handle tho so ask.

Thanks for the responses, I actually found a reference on the web which claimed 200 pounds for a bare block, i've since confirmed it with an individual who ships a lot of blocks.
Haven't seen a weight for a crank though.

And yes shipping prices are high due to rising fuel costs, it's beatin' up everyone. The best price I've seen is Forward Air terminal to terminal, the next best was Yellow Freight's Exact Express.

I read once that a sbc block weighs 179 or 189, and a steel crank weighs about 50-55lbs, i have a small journal 327 crank thas been lightened down to 44 lbs, it should be a screamer.

Sounds cool, 327's always been considered an ideal bore to stroke ratio. Nice Camaro too!!
Just found a link claiming 48 pounds for a 350 crank. So block and crank should be under 250 pounds for a shipping quote.
thanks.
