Default Another cut up dash

I have tried to search for this topic, but all I could find was how to cut up the dash to put in an aftermarket radio, or how to replace the metal that someone has already cut out.
Well, I have a 67 who's dash has already been cut up for an aftermarket radio when I bought it, not too bad of a cut job, just enough removed to get it in. I just don't like the way this looks though and would rather go back to one with the knobs. I was looking at the retrosound or the custom autosound head unit. My question is, this isn't really an original car, so it doesn't bother me that it has been cut already and not correct, but will I actually be able to install one of these back in it without adding the metal back to it? I would think that if its the two outside screws holding the unit, then the faceplate would cover it up so you couldn't tell? Correct me if my understanding is wrong though please. I am assuming that the metal that bas been cut out isn't actually supporting it. Any advice or anything else I would need to do would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

You may not need to add back metal, it attaches via screws behind the knobs. It's 3AM. I cant really explain it that well haha.. I might go get some food..
Anyways..
Behind the knobs it is threaded. You put like a washer and a nut on it to hold it in place. So like.

--}|/|}----{

Ok so yeah. again.. 3AM. Wicked diagram I know.
So the --- is the threaded part behind the knob. The { is the knob itself. So in the middle, you'll see my '/'. Thats your dash hah. } = nut, |=washer. So yeah.. hopefully that makes sense. It doesnt really require any backing, if anything you could make a little bracket behind there just to hold it up, but it doesnt bolt to anything.
Im talking about the Retrosound, I put one in my car not that long ago. I even used the original 'wood trim' to make it look authentic.
It looks and sounds awesome.

lol, yeah, I think I can make sense of the diagram, thanks! So basically, it would no longer use the outside smaller diameter holes that the original radio installed with? And basically, even if the washers included were not large enough for my situation, I could possibly fabricate something larger that would do the same thing, with out having to weld on the dash and replace the removed metal?
Thanks a bunch for your help!

Im glad you can make sense of what I was trying to say. I wasnt even sure if I could make sense of it hah. No prob!
I attached mine right in the factory spot, it pretty much mounts like your factory radio does, with the screws behind the knobs. The Retrosound Model One that I got had an adjustable plate where the knobs go so you can use the factory holes if you want, its a pretty neat system. You could, if you wanted make the knobs closer or farther away with that system so it should fit almost any application. You could almost definitly fabricate something behind the dash to hold it up, if you needed to without welding or replacing the removed metal. You could try contacting Retrosound's customer service, they were amazing to deal with. Tell them your situation and see what they suggest you do. My dad's car [70 cutlass] had a cut dash too, and I just installed another generic CD player, it seemed easier than trying to convert back to a knob-style radio. On the otherhand though, he prefers the look of my retrosound to his JVC by tenfold. I even re-used my wood trim overtop of the stereo so it looks authentic, if you would like I can show you a picture to help you decide.
