Guys I had to post this, just hung up the phone with a gentleman that crushes cars for a living. He is going to crush over 600 cars that have been sitting for years.Heres the kicker, the cars belong to a family that had a Chevrolet dealership going back to the mid fifties and is still in business now. Some of the cars were old trades and others were cars that the customers did not pay to have repaired.I walked off into the woods one day to look and saw to Impalas sitting and one had the 409 emblems on it.The owner asked me to leave that the cars were not for sale.
The deal is that I will have first chance to look over the cars as they are removed.I can remove any parts myself before they crush. The price of the part will be negotiated at the time it is to be removed. This money is his padding. I also have first option at any complete cars at a crushed price.I always thought there were some 100 cars in there and I have heard of stories about old muscle cars being out through the woods. The owner passed away and the family is crushing the cars and deviding the money between them. Looks like I'll get to go own my own treasure hunt very soon

I'm hoping to get a inventory list together. The guy who crushes cares nothing about the cars only his paid rate.Doing it this way just mean he gets paid twice, So having said that it will be a rush job.I don't have a date yet but will keep everyone posted.
Hard to believe this came about by giving one person a part he needed. He past my name along and then a ring on the phone asking if I would be interested in this stuff. Just goes to show , what comes around goes around.........Ol' Earls right CARMA. LOL.

Make sure you document the whole process with pictures. We love pictures of old junkyards!
How is the family making money by crushing the cars? Wouldn't it make more sense to hire someone to sell the more valuable ones on eBay? |

Very good question, I knew this would be asked soon. This dealership was in a very old town. The town has all but dried up and the family members most all of them have moved away. The son who runs this business was never interested in muscle cars and would even have a conversation about the ones they sold in the past.I tried numerous times to get them to let me walk the area with no success.
About 60 miles or so away there was a 1200 car stash that was crushed last month.I have no details but the price paid for the lump sum that was crushed. Can you say 200,000.00 cash for those cars.Equals about 167.00 each, and the owner does nothing but stand there holding their hand out. There was a write up in the paper a couple of months ago about 4 people getting arrested for tresspassing and stealing.Turns out someone was sneaking in and stealing radiators from them. They want to get rid of it and clear the land to get ready to develop. The kidds don't want the hassle of having someone to look after these old cars and not to mention the uses of having cash.LOL

I'm not going to be able to sleep waiting on the call.I talked to one guy who said he walked over the place back in the 80's.He said it was grown up back then but there was alot of good stuff back there.Said alot of the cars were just rusted down.He collects vettes and BBC stuff so I'm hoping he's right.
I questioned the son that ran dealership one time about why they would put the cars out to pasture. He said his father would trade for stuff and if it didn't sell for his price he'd move it to the back.Later the dealership was moved to the other side of town. The cars were basically forgotten about until someone would ask to look at them or someone was caught snooping around them. THis is going to drive me crazy, I have a good mind to put on my snake chaps and my red eye head light and hit the woods Sat. night to take inventory.

John,
I know the exact bunch of cars that you are talking about. In the woods there, there is an old shop with a mid 60s Vette inside and a few other old ones, or it was about 15 years ago. I remember when all that was a field. Virgil |
