I am trying to decide on a tranny swap. And it was stated to me that it is important to know what the cars RPM band is. To properly engineer a driveline. I do not know any of the cam specs. since it was installed prior to my ownership. How do I find out what my rpm band is?
By getting it dynoed? Any other ways? Any other info you need to know to help out? Thanks.

A dyno sheet will tell you where your powerband is, but so will your backside. Where does the car pull the hardest? Where is the point where you can feel it stop pulling really hard? Can you take it to the drags? If so, experiment with different shift points and see what happens to your ET.
All of this will give you ballpark figures to work with, not as good as knowing what parts you have.

If you have a manual transmission it's easy to find out. Put the tranny in a gear that makes the engine lug at about 1200 RPM or so and hold the accellerator steady. Note where the RPMs (and MPHs) begin to pickup. Finding the fall-off point is a bit more difficult.

I hate to say it, but pull the cam so you will really know what you have!
Then go from there. pdq67 |
