Default Is a mid 70's Cadillac Big Block engine worth anything?

I have an opportunity to buy a mid 70's Cadillac hearst for next to nothing. It is a big block, maybe 500cid. Are these Chevy engines? and is there any interest in these engines for build up?
Thanks
JZ

Low RPM and Gutless but responds to Turbo Charging or Paxton.

They are big strong and heavy. There are some performance parts made for them, and they can be made to run pretty well. It'll be either a 472 or a 500, probably a 500.

What do you think I could get for the complete engine if I sold it. It runs ok not sure of the miles.
Thanks

To me they are a novelty. YES you can get serious HP but as I said Turbo or Paxton and put it in a ROD such as a Willies or English Prefect. The Main and Rod Journal Widths are too narrow for Hi-Hp Hi-Rev and wipe with Carburation Wash.

Thumbs up Re: Is a mid 70's Cadillac Big Block engine worth anything?

BIG, but certainly NOT heavy!!

500" Cad at 625 pounds vs 685 pounds for our 454 BB!

The 10 to 1 CR. 500" engine is 400 hp at 4500 rpm and 550 t at 3,000 rpm!!

A 500" Cad. one of two engines I would transplant into a 1st Gen. Car! The other one is a 409 "W" engine and I have!!

Yes, gobs of torque, low compression and can run on panther pi...pee if run out of gas.

Yes, the rods are narrow for high performance use, but when was the last time you seen a mid-70's Caddy at 5K rpm? They usually never see above 3500.

Their OE rocker arm design should be changed if going to higher lift and stronger springs.

I had a caddy 500ci in a old truck. That was the best move I could have made. It got better gas milage then the 350 I took out. And alot more power..It was a blast to drive...

Right!!

This is why I said to do your homework!!

The big Cad is a great engine once you BB chevy some stuff in it!!

I would figure out a way to get rid of the stock damper and crap by probably rebalancing the rotating assembly front and rear w/ heavi-metal so it will rpm!

Then install BB Chevy 2.19"/1.88" valves and better rocker supports. Then at the min., add an E-brock dual plane intake and a cheap set of 2" Chevy, 4-tube headers that I would put Cad flanges on!!

Or is it 460 Ford headers??

I've read conflicking info on just how far a 500" Cad can be bored out??

Can one be bored .125", (1/8th inch), over??

What's the max. on the 500" Cad's overbore??

Anybody know b/c they've done it??

I know it's got a 5.00" bore spacing so should be able to bore a bunch if GM didn't lightweight thin cast the suckers.
