DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS ABOUT USING SYNTHETIC GEAR OIL IN A B/W SUPER T-10 4SPEED? I PULLED MINE OUT BECAUSE OF HARD 2ND GEAR SHIFTS, BUT THE SYNCHRO'S AND GEARS ALL LOOK GOOD. IT SHIFTS OK BELOW ABOUT 5800 RPM, BUT I SHIFT AROUND 6800, NO GRINDING, JUST HARD TO GET IN. I THOUGHT MAYBE SYNTHETIC GEAR OIL MIGHT HELP

I have not done this myself, but I know of some drag racers that do this and they say it helps. Try adding some of the GM Limited Slip additive to the gear oil. The additive is super slippery and might help. It wont hurt anyting. I run sinthetic in my Muncie and it seems to shift ok at higher RPM. It may be that I am so wound up that I cant feel the difference, because I shift hard.

67,
There has been an ongoing "discussion" about this over on Chevelle tech. I talked to the guys from Richmond gear a day or so ago and they recommended synthetic gear oil for thier manual transmissions but...it absolutely cannot be a gear oil designed for use with "Posi" type rears. The Mobil 1 75/90 is one which WILL work fine. The Richmond gear oil has a posi additive in it and should NOT be used in a manual trans. There is some friction required for syncronizers to work properly.
On another note, are you certain that your clutch is disengaging completely ??? This will also cause the problem you are having.
Hope this helps,

Thumbs up

Thanks for the input. I have replaced the old clutch with a centerforce dual friction set but have not tried it out yet, after close inspection, I believe the 2-4 shift stop screw was adjusted too close, not allowing the shifter to come back quite far enough, sounds stupid of me, but i simply overlooked it. I will be using synthetic fluid anyway, thanks again

My friend uses Redline MTL in his SAAB 5 speed and those are not known to be stong. It works wonders for shifting and durability. Use it, you'll like it.
