Default Mech fuel pump....okay to plug return line for test fire?

I was surprised to find out that my fuel pump has a return line. I didn't think a '73 3/2 truck would, but there are 3 connections, and it's the smallest one. My question is that I'm firing the motor on the test stand tomorrow. Can I plug that return without it affecting the pump working properly?? Not too sure how the return affect the overall workings of the pump. Thanks!

i've run pumps like that in cars with no return line, and all i did was jam a chunk of hose on it with a bolt plugging it.
