chad: thank you... question: what is "A &Y". So, this motor could be desireable to a corvette owner? Is it either from a Vette or Chevelle? or, "fullsize car" as an option also. thanks again.

Mike: I do, but not handy. I remember it looking crooked, and they used "I" where "1" should have been. I was told that was common at the Chevy plant. If I could get a decent price, I'd sell it. If not, this motor will be rebuilt to 383. just don't want to start messing with a motor that a corvette guy might want. I'll get the pad stamp tomorrow.

The 3858174 block was used in '66 Corvettes, for both the 300hp and 350hp engines (assuming it's a Flint block - that's all that Corvettes used - they didn't use Tonawanda small-blocks).

A body Chevelle , Y body Corvette , F body Camaro , X body Nova and the other GM look alikes.Cutlass , Firebird etc.The front pad stamp will tell you what it is from.It isnt the best block to use for a 383.It is a small journal block and the crank costs more than the large journal ones. Also not as much room in the pan rails for the longer stroke.

Look for the small (1/8"npt) oil plug in the front (just right of center) of the block just above the timing cover - only Flint uses this galley machine process.

All Flint small-blocks had the plug in the photo below, and Tonawanda small-blocks did not.
