I was out for a drive...testing out the cowl induction setup. I was on a deserted 2 lane road doing about 105 and the upper & pass side trim pieces flew off.
I had to make a long loop to go back and get them, but the rescue mission was a success and they aren't damaged. How do I reinstall them so they don't fly off again? I don't drive that fast on the streets (well, not usually), but I do plan on doing a track event in November and don't want to lose them on the track.

Dan,
Take a look at the clips, there should be a nub that holds the edge of the molding. I ordered clips for my car from Classic Industries and they didn't have this. I reordered them from Rick's and they were much better. Here is a link to a recent discussion.... http://www.camaros.net/forums/showth...ght=trim+clips Don |

That happened to me too. My original ones flew of at 110 mph (top and left side) didn't find the left one.
Got a new set from OER, they flew of doing 40 Mph ![]() This new set got damaged sewerely by 50 cars running over them ![]() I have a few clips missing and two of the studs are gone too. Might glue them back on. Jan

You can buy screw in replacement studs. There is a guy on ebay that sells excellent quality trim clips and he usually includes some of the replacement studs with the clips.

I was just thinking about this. I met a guy at a local car show. He thinks my car was originally a vinyl top car. He said he could tell by the way the lower trim sits on the body at the side posts.
Does that matter? If I need to change the clips, does the windshield need to come out? I'd rather use some silicone to hold the pieces in place in the corners than have to pull the window out.

After the big rebuild back in '86, went on a road trip around NZ...there is what is called "the desert Road" in central North Island
Cruising around the 130 mph + the new top trim flew off......it was amazing to see it hover up in the air...was a long way back to the spot ..find the right spot, then find the trim I had used classic clips back then, cant rem what they where like At the next town called into a resto shop, and filled behind it 4 x 1" strips of ureathans window sealer...never lost it again The next body rebuild about 8 yrs later, re used the old orginal clips...never had an issue again. If the clips are set right the edge of the trim sits hard down on the glass.

dan doesn't matter if it was an original vinyl top or not. your trim shouldn't be coming off.you can get the clips off without removing the glass but it might take some time and patience if the windsheild was replaced and filled with sealer on the edges of the glass. i tried to reuse my clips after i removed the trim but they didn't seem to work real well so i replaced all of them. look in your trunk and you will see trim holes that were patched if it was an original vinyl car. the TT will also tell you.
