Default Aeroquip Socketless Hose - It is real!

All Enthusiasts,
I recently noticed some confusion surrounding Aeroquip Socketless hose from various distributors around the country. Let me help clarify for those who may not know and speak to a recent hose failure on the site.

1. Aeroquip Socketless hose comes in 2 colors, blue and black.
2. Aeroquip Socketless black has an industrial part number FC598, Aeroquip Performance Number FBNXXXX.
3. Aeroquip Socketless blue has industrial part number FC332 on the layline, AQP Performance part number FBVXXXX.

Both hoses are qualified on the Socketless fittings and have been for ~12 years without change. As far as the failure images - please note the tie strap around the fitting/hose connection. A lethal weapon to any socketless hose are clamps and straps as they act like razor blades, destroying the inner tube integrity when compressed.

I hope this helps, and please contact me if you have any questions.

I'm glad you posted, I have questions on the safety regarding the use of FC598 AQP as fuel hose for automotive applications, and the use of FC598 AQP hose with socketless connectors.

The print on the hose says 'AEROQUIP FC598-06 AQP EXCEEDS SAE 100R6'. I'm using both -8AN and -6AN sizes in a fuel injected application with normal pressure at 60psi (15in vac) and up to 90psi (15psi with boost referenced fuel regulator).

The only eaton reference I found after I bought and installed the hose is: http://hydraulics.eaton.com/products...Q-MC001-E1.pdf

I'm using the hose underhood and under the car in the same route as the stock fuel line. Underhood temps for cylinder heads and valve covers measure up to 250degrees or more (water temp plus exhaust), and heat from the headers and cats flows through the center tunnel which also carries the hose.

I am also using socketless connectors with the FC598 hose, both Vic Hubbard and JEGS sold the combo of socketless connector and Aeroquip hose as the recommended combination.

Page 3 of the document states max temperature for hoses carrying fuel is 200degrees. Since engine compartments reach higher temperatures than 200degrees (even coolant is normally higher), and heat rising from headers and exhaust raise the temperature higher, is FC598 safe as fuel hose in engine compartments or near headers/cats/midpipes? Note this is the same location and route as the stock fuel lines.

Page 18 of the document lists specs for FC598 AQP hose. Under the chart for FC598 hose, the Operating Temperature Range says to see page 3, the application is 'Low pressure return lines in hydraulic systems', and the only fitting listed 'Crimped'. Is this hose safe to use for socketless fittings?

The original poster didn't understand forums well enough to find either of the threads on this subject and reply in them, or find a relevant forum to post in (Welcome Wagon??), so I kinda doubt he knows to subscribe to this thread or come back and check for replies. He also mentioned speaking to "a recent hose failure on the site", and I don't know of anyone who has posted about an actual failure of the FC598 hose on here. On LS1Tech, yes... on here, no. He seems pretty confused by this internet stuff .

I sent him an email Friday night, I'll post the response if I get one...

So I've been trading emails back and forth with Paul. Here's the deal, summarized:

The black socketless hose and specs are listed in Aeroquip Perfomance master catalog on page 13. http://hydraulics.eaton.com/products...E-MC001-E2.pdf. The Aeroquip Performance part number is FBNxxxx. The 20ft box of -06 black socketless would be FBN0620. Paul says that FC598 is an Aeroquip Industrial model number, and that the same hose is used for both FBN0620 and FC598.

I haven't gotten a good explanation of why FC598 is OK to use as socketless for performance applications, but not OK for industrial applications. It's not exactly confidence-inspiring. Next time, I'll use a different brand of hose/fittings.
