Default hood "straps" or not?

I know that's not what they're called, but I always liked the look of a muscle car that had the two wires that held the hood down in the event it came un-latched. I know they were probably cosmetic to begin with, but what cars came with these. (Chargers? Cudas? Boss?) I know Camaros didn't come with them. I'm having a '68 restored and would like to add a few "period correct" odds and ends. Does anyone have any pics of these on a Camaro?

If you do a google search for "hood pins" I'm sure you will get more results than you care to. The wires were "leashes" to keep from losing the cotter key.

If you want to see them in person go to any drag race and you will see them on a camaro. They usually are on the camaros with the fiberglass hoods and do not have a hood latch.

Here is a picture of a fibreglass stinger hood with them installed.

As far as I know these hood pins came on 1969 Roadrunners and Superbees with the 440 six-pack engine, and the whole hood was fiberglass and lifted off entirely. They also came on 1970 Challenger TA's and Cuda AAR's as they had fiberglass hoods with hinges but no regular hood latches. Basically they held fiberglass hoods down because they had no regular hood latches. I'm sure they came as cosmetic dress up on many cars with a steel hood and a regular hood latch. I think they look good and add that muscle car look.

you know, I wonder now how they would look with a hood with the "z" stripes on it? Thats what mine will have. may look better on a single color hood?

As others have said, they don't stop the hood from coming open the hood pins do that. The wires are simply there to keep you from losing the clips that go through the hood pins. You can get them from any vendor that sells racing parts. Don't know how many times I've sworn under my breath at people who put them on otherwise mint SS & cowl induction hoods back in the days when I was buying & selling used Camaro parts. For someone looking for a perfect hood for a restoration those holes are a real bummer.

thanks to all for the pics you posted. I've considered the fact it would put holes in the hood. However, I have the original hood that came with the car. right now, it has a cowl hood the previous owner put on. I was going to put the original hood back on but did something I never thought I would: I started liking the cowl hood. I have a '69 SS and love the SS hoods. Simply, I just want this '68 to look really cool. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE PICS
