I'm building a 69 Pro-Touring from the ground up and have installed a cool push button start system. I wanted a tilt column without the column key so i modified a '76 Firebird column which worked out great. Had to grind off the key bung which was not as difficult as I first thought. I now have the high beam and wiper switch on the column. All of the column mounting bolts are the same as the '69. The only difference is that the '76 column is 1" shorter than the '69. The key is now on the dash and the start button is next to it. I'm putting the key and button on the radio delete panel.
The Push Button Start System is the coolest I've seen and it comes with remote entry. Take a look. www.gallotech.com . I also bought one of these for my street car. When I get it finished I'll post some pics. |

What did you do to insure that your column stays unlocked?

I removed the key tumbler and locking mechanism in the column. The column now works like a pre "69 non locking tilt column. The main reason I wanted to use a later model column was to have the wipers and high beam control on the column. The key and push engine start button is now where the original radio was. The radio is now behind the flip down ashtray door.
