I am looking at my AFR 195 intake port and notice I have some unmatched area when compared to the 7501 Airgap. Just using measurments from intake port to head intake port, it appears that the intake roofs need touching up or laying back some .
As anyone gotten into this? I am not trying to match gaskets to ports, just intake ports themselves. I know there are AFR comments as NOT to match gaskets, but I am thinking port to port. Comments?

i was also thinking of matching the ports on my 671 lower blower intake to the ports of my 195 heads. I wasnt going to get crazy or anything, but I wanted to match them as closely as I can to those on the afr heads

You want the port on the head bigger than the intake, so airflow doesn't run into an obstruction. When an intake is gasket matched, it is done about .025 smaller than the gasket. When a head is gasket matched, it's on the mark.
Then when you set the intake, before you tighten it look down in there and try to even it up. It's about impossible to get all the ports how you want.

I am using the felpro 1206 gasket as I want to make sure I have enuff seal lip , especially on the crank side. The 1205 gasket is what's recommended. Guess I will pick up a 1205 and see where they seal. If I would have thought of this prior to bolting heads down, I would have removed all valves and bolted intake and head up looked into intake ports , to see where the steps are. I did this on the other 195's and as you said, its almost impossible to get it all ports like you want them. Thanks, hope you didn't get too much snow.

I was in Perryton Tx yesterday AM, saw a few flakes. Cold and windy as hell.
Today supposed to be pretty and tomorrow even better.

The way I did it was to glue the intake gasket to the heads using 3M weather adhesive, so that the gasket was placed perfectly on the head side. This way the gaskets will not move. Then I took blue Dykem and spread it evenly on both sides of the ports on the intake. Then carefully placed the intake on the heads and bolted them down. Then removed the intake and took a look at the Dykem you could tell where the edge of the intake gasket was in relation to the intake ports.
This gave me a good indication of where I had to take off material. |

Use the 1205. It is perfect match for my 195's and Performer RPM.

Did use the 1205 , it did require less grinding to get close to matched. I was seeing a reversion step about 1/16" at the intake roof . Cleaned this up and called it done.
