Default GM Performance Parts ZZ427/430HP Engine

What do you think about this GM engine; do you think it worth the cost or could one be built for a cheaper price? Cost varies from $10,000 to $12,000.

GM Performance Parts ZZ427/430HP Engine

Outstanding Performance
Even on Low Octane Fuel

Few engines conjure thoughts of greatness like the legendary Chevy big block 427. It powered some of the most storied cars in high-performance history. New to the GM Performance Parts lineup, the ZZ427 crate engine maintains the good, original characteristics while adding modern touches: updated 4-bolt main cast iron block, forged internal rotating assembly, 10.1:1 compression ratio, and aggressive hydraulic roller cam. The engine's top half is the same as the Limited Edition Anniversary 427; the intake is a matching high-flow oval port aluminum piece. With 444 ft/lbs torque and a conservative 430 HP rating, this is still one of the best crate engines for nearly any big block application.

If I wanted a ZL1, I'd make it at least 12.0 to 12.5 to 1 and run rect heads on it and a knarly solid lifter cam just like they were!

W/ uncorked headers, it is worth about 530 to 540 hp up top!

Hell, you are probably paying at least $3,000 for the name alone!

All you need is a 396 crank, 427 pistons, and a 454 block, and you have your own 427, much cheaper. Throw some 781/049 heads, a solid ft cam, and you will make way more power than that motor, and 1/3 the cost.

I guess you both are right; go out find season block and go from there. It would be a lot cheaper.

Just be careful what you do.I had a motor for sale on this site a 427 like was just talked about. It was complete air cleaner to pan fan clutch to bellhousing and i could not sell it for5000.00 cdn which is alot less US.It made almost 500hs/500torque. So just be careful, i was told by one of the members here it was only worth 1500.00?,and i have way more than that!
Take Care Wes

Does anyone know if the new crate 427 has a provision for a mechanical fuel pump or not?

Yes, it is over priced; can't understand why they would want so much money for an engine that they probably built for 5 to 6 thousand and it 's not the ZL-1.

Yeah, that's just the standard Chevy PR stuff. Doesn't get down into the detail, like one piece or two piece main seal, fuel pump number, compatibility with MK IV parts or not. I want to put a 427 in my 69, but I want it to look stock so I need to know if a 69 quadrajet intake will bolt up. What I would really like to find is a complete Corvette 1969 L39 engine, a 427 390 hp motor.
