I have found a great exaust for my 69 and would love to pass on the info....its from a company called Dr. Gas! and the web address is www.drgas.com and they have a very interesting x pipe that is used on many nascar.iroc..etc..cars and in many sizes. The system is for performance and not for the "all factory" guys. They can send you all the details of the system in paper form. There web site looks fairly new but the parent Co. Pro-motorsports had been around for a while. There is also a pic of a killer 69 on the page. Happy Holidays!

Thanks! I'm shopping for an exhaust system as well, and I asked for their catalog. Any word on installing the system? How does it fit? My car is a ragtop, and the pipes need to get over the floorpan support. I've done it in the past with custome bent 2.5" pipes, but it's tight.

They also have an oval pipe that works with tight applications. I have not purchased the system yet..but its on my to do list. Check out mufflers from edelbock...they seem to have my vote.

Hey there,

Just thought I would give my two cents on exhaust systems. I have a 67 Camaro with a 350 and TH-350. If you are looking for an aftermarket performance exhaust, which it looks like you are, then I suggest the Flowmaster American Thunder kit for 67-69 Camaros. This exhaust is a header-back system (I assume your 69 has headers) complete with all brackets, mounts, gaskets, and hardware. The system is a dual 2.5" systerm with precision welded H-pipe and two Flowmaster 2-chamber delta flow mufflers. I installed this system on my car, and let me tell you it is one of the best exhausts I have heard. First of all, the complete set only cost $270 and it is the only TRULY BOLT ON THING I HAVE EVER BOUGHT!!! There were no modifications, cutting, etc. necessary. The only tool I needed to install it was a socket wrench to tighten the hanger clamps. I'm dead serious. The craftsmanship of this system is top notch also. I think this was the best, most cost-effective investment I have made in my car, and I've done a heck of a lot of performance enhancing work on my vehicle. By the way, the systerm comes in two forms, one of the system has tips that dump in the stock quarter panel location for 67-68 models, and the other system has polished stainless tips that exit out underneath the rear valence panel for 69 cars. This exhaust also made a very noticeable difference in upper end power in my car, and I was coming into it already with a pretty decent dual exhaust system with the same headers. I've been eyeballing that system. Glad to hear it fits! What about connecting to the headers? What brand of headers do you have? My car is down for the winter, and the exhaust is cut off (amung other things!) I sure would like to go with something that'll bolt right on.

Hey again,

I had old Mr. Gasket headers (I didn't even know they made headers at one time, they were on the car when I bought it) when I first installed the system. I now have Dynomax jet hot coated full length headers. In both cases, the system bolted right up. The system is designed so that you can cut the header pipes with a hacksaw to adapt to both the length and width of your headers. Cut to length I understand, but how do you adjust the width? And, how well do the exhaust pipes tuck into the tunnel behind the trans? My car is a ragtop, and the pipes have to be up in the tunnel so the floorpan brace will go back on. Thanks for the tips, and I'll check your website!

1 year ago tried the flowmaster setup does not fit convertible ,made my own. Did it with 2.5 should have 3,anybody have any ideas?

I also have a ragtop,I looked everywhere for a pre-bent performance system so that I could do it myself at home,I made many calls,summitt,borla,flowmaster,ect.I could'nt find one anywhere for a droptop.I had a shop custom bend one.If there is a pre-bent system that is sold,I also would like to find out who makes it.

The width adjusts by cutting the length of the pipes as they angle into the Y'd H-pipe. It is kinda hard to explain without pictures, just trust me that it IS adjustable. However, it DOES NOT FIT convertibles, and I don't know of any exhausts you can buy that do.

Well,,, so much for that. I suppose I could just buy the mufflers and tailpipes, and have someone make the exhaust pipes. Do they tailpipes look as pretty as the catalog description? and do they clear everything OK? a local custom exhaust shop here (they make the systems sold by D&R classics) told me that the inner fender and trunk extension sheetmetal was different on a 69 than a 67-8 so that the full length tailpipes would fit right

I remember reading an article in Car Craft where they put a 94 LT1 and 4L60 into a 67 RS convertible. They had a system made by Borla to clear the x-brace and they listed the part #. I can check the article when I get home tonight, but I think it was a 2-1/4" system. I think it's the same system listed in Summit Racing Equipment's catalog. It's stainless steel of course and is made to bolt up to headers.

I found the article in the Feb 97 Car Craft where they installed an LT1 into a 67 RS convertible and they had Borla create a dual exhaust for it. They list the Borla part # as 10718 for the convertible 2-1/4" dual exhaust. I would check with Borla to verify the information and to see if it is header back or manifold back. Just thought this might help somebody out.

Update!- This exaust system from Dr. Gas- by design is the next level of tech. The X pipe as they call it is very trick. Yes it does require some minor fitting but the guys who designed and make it are one of the best. I found out this Co. makes exuast for a lot of NASCAR teams are really know their stuff. For reduced clearance, they can make oval(not round) (shaped like an egg) tubes that will work for cars with x-braces. Check them out guys...they are at www.drgas.com. The performance is worth the effort and the sound is nothing like I have ever heard. My 500HP small block sounds like a cross between a Indy car and a NASCAR at full engine RPM
