Default two peice vs 1 peice seals

I have been wanting to build a 383 or 385 . I have talked to a few people and have been reading everything i can . Getting over which block to use is the hardest part . I have 2 early 70s 350 4 bolt blocks both 30 over , I was planing to use 1 of these, or do i use a newer 2 peice rear main seal block so I can use a hydraulic roller cam ? I was hoping to use as many roller parts as possible.

My thoughts are these: If you're looking for a later engine with rollers to build, good, if you have it at hand.

If you have to buy an used engine to rebuild for the benefit of having rollers, then you haven't gained anything as it would cost about the same to rollerized the earlier blocks, all ready bored, as compared to buying and using newer, then boring it, cleaning it, etc.

X 2! if one of those 30 over blocks you have is straight (no cyl taper or line bore issues) they will work fine. The stroker cranks are more expensive for the later model one piece rear seal motors.

I don't think there is any real difference in prices between the 1 piece and 2 piece cranks. Least from Eagle or Scat.

What is really nice about the older blocks is their higher nickle content and thicker cylinder wall thicknesses. So if you are planning to push a lot of HP out of a block or want to bore it out more, you have more options on an older block. However they are heavier.
