I've been OK with the Comp Cams Pro Mag 858-16 lifter but there have been numerous reports about CC - Lifter quality regarding porosity and machining. Perhaps the problem lies with their cheaper line of lifters, I do not know. In the past, I've always preferred Crane or TRW but whether they are available is questionable. I heard good reports about Elgin lifters. You may still be able to order GM OEM lifters, which should be superior quality.

Genuine GM lifters are the best available.

Summit has a set of 16 for under $80.

We use the AC Delco lifter in all our Hyd. builds street and circle track applications as the have the hardest bottoms out there.

We buy them in bulk and sell them for 65.00 a set

Someone told me today that all the hydraulic lifters are made by one or two companies. To me this doesn't mean they are the same just made by same. Looking on Summit's web site posted above why would Summit have a set for $40 and all others are about twice that. I have found items with Summits name are usually pretty good quality but that price difference scares me.

X2! First paragraph from Camshaft section in Chevrolet's Performance Book states "Use GM lifters for GM camshafts."

I bought a GM cam and aftermarket lifters, no turn of lifters. I read the book and bought a set from dealer along with EOS, and lifters turned. Lesson learned.

GM lifters have a two-piece outer body, a hardened face as seen by the line on the bottom of the outer body to prevent wear.

Can't go wrong with a GM lifter, and GM camshafts are Parkerized for longevity, the reason GM states to use GM lifters.

The GM lifter has a steel bottom which is harder and better then the Sealed Power cast iron lifter which nobody knows where it comes from.

The GM lifters can be bought at any GM dealer ship.

The thing is get more calls about bad lifters and cams then most guys here and that why I recomend the best lifter I have found that works. I don't tend to cut corners or go with substandard parts at out shop.

As there are still to many issues with lifters read the forums.
