I was going to Lowe's to get some metal for patching some holes in the trunk and wheel wells. What gauge is best to use? Thanks my friend is going to Mig it in for me.

If you need to do some forming of the metal into those tighter spaces, it would be easier to use 22ga.
For relatively flat(er) sections you can use heavier 16ga easily. It will form gentle curves very nicely, and is a little easier to weld as you can train the heat on the newer/thicker metal patch and limit burn-through.

I could only find 22 gauge at Lowe's and Home Depot. It's hard to weld it without burning through. Get some 20 gauge from a supply shop. It's a little harder to form, but holds up better to welding.
