Default Rusty Master Cylinder

This is probably a really dumb question, but I converted from drum to manual disc brakes on my 69 Camaro about a year ago. The new master cylinder has already acquired a coating of rust that is very unsightly. Question: how best to remove the rust and stop it from reappearing? I suspect there is a very simple answer.

remove it with a scotch brite pad soaked with WD40 and then either clean it off with some brake cleaner and paint it or leave the WD on it and leave it bare.

Muriotic acid will remove the rust. Then neutralize it with water. Dry thoroughly then simply treat it with Rem Oil Gun Oil by Remington. It's got Teflon in it for extended wear. There are a multitude of oils for firearms and the machine tool industry for preserving bare metal. This is of course what these industries require. Assuming you want to maintain origionality; otherwise paint it with Cast Blast.
