I just got a new set of DSE 2" lowering multileafs. I need to get the rubber front eye bushings out so I can get the solid aluminum bushings in there that came with my caltracs.
How in the hell can i get these out without messing up the nice new looking leaf springs. I usually just burn them out and use a air chisel, but these are new parts and I dont want them looking destroyed.

I had my friends shop do it, he pressed the old one out and pressed the new one in... Don't try to bang the heck out of it and especially try to get the aluminum bushing in... If you can rig something up like a vise and a hydraulic jack im sure it would work.

Head down to the local workshop, on the way pick up a couple 6 packs, and take a friend.
Borrow their press and u need the friend to hold the other end of the spring... leave the 6 packs behind.

With a press, should only take a few minutes to R&R.

Its pretty easy with a press, just lay the leaf eye hole in on its side and take a couple of little metal blocks to put on the edge/housing of the eye loop then find diameter piece of metal and use that to push the old bushing out and the new bushing in. It takes a lot of pressure to get it out and in.

press the old one out by useing the new solid one , that's how I did mine on the car with a piece of stainless steel all thread , kind of made a makeshift puller. JIM M has pictures of how he did his without removing the spring , that's how I got the idea.
If yours are off the car and you have use of a 20 ton press...... this SHOULD go fairly easy for ya. |
