Default Are PUI interior kits a DIY project?

I am looking to redo my complete interior on my 68 Camaro.

Headliner
Front and Rear door Panels
Front buckets
Rear bench

Seems like PUI stuff has good reviews. I want it to look really good.
Would you guys reccomend trying this myself for the first time, or having a shop do it? I'm not sure how much this would cost but I'm trying to save money where I can.

My car came with Deluxe panels but the arm rests are cracked pretty bad so I guess that they must be replaced and can't be repaired. I would much rather have the deluxe interior but it's very expensive and much harder to find.

WOuld you say that putting a deluxe interior back in a 68 camaro raises the resale value to make it worth the extra value?

jp,
what follows is my opinion and my opinion only.
to me, "wanting it to look really good" and "trying to save money" in this hobby, is a contridiction of terms. if you have the original panels and only the arm rest pads are badly cracked, send the pads off to just dashes to be restored; (www.justdashes.com). they have three levels of refurbishing from daily driver to 100 point concourse show. they can also restore your original door panels to the same standards.

an original deluxe interior, fully restored, would definitely be worth the cost to keep the value of the car and re-pop stuff is, well, re-pop stuff. no matter how good ,there will be fitment issues and they just do not look the same.... again in my opinion only.

investigate what just dashes does, their quality of work for restoring original parts vs buying repop stuff and make your decison after doing your research. i do caution you, they (just dashes) ain't cheap.
(if you decide on re-pop stuff, let me know 'cause i have a garage full of re-pop crap that i will sell for pennies on the dollar!!!!)

as far as re-covering your seats and re-installing the headliner, do a search for either topic and there are some really great posts here on doing it yourself. with a little patience and armed with the tips from the members of tc, you can re-cover your seats and re-install the liner to look "really good", inexpensively. however, and my final two cents worth, before you purchase your new seat covers, do a search for "legendary", get on their notification list and they will contact you upon the release of the 1st gen seat covers; you will not be sorry with the legendary products.

If you search, lots of us have installed our own interior kits. It's not that bad if you take your time. Sometimes it's not about the money, it's about the satisfaction of doing it yourself. I've installed PUI covers on my '68 Camaro and Legendary on my '70 Challenger. I didn't see a lot of difference in quality. Both were pretty good.

IMHO. Stay away from PUI. Their stuff is horrible to work with. I put on a set of 62 Impala seat covers made by them(brought in by the customer) about 3 months ago. Had to cut them down 2 inches on both sides on the backs and bottoms. Started putting on some 69 Camaro seat covers yesterday. They will have to be cut down about 1 1/4 on both sides(bottoms and backs). Their seems are off center by about an inch. Also on the top edges of the seats, they should have a radius. PUI covers 90 degree corners. My advice get another brand and pay a little bit more. It will be cheaper than buying the PUI pieces then having a upholstery shop alter them. Just my .02

I agree--Legendary are supposed to be superior to anything out there. I used PUI on my 70 Nova resto and was not all too impressed, especially with the door panels quality. The seat covers were okay, not great just okay.

Pui seat covers have been good for me (3) times in a row now. Al Knoch deluxe door panels are the best way to go at this time for quality and price. Legendary has been talking about it for some time now, but still, no door panels.
Any repro door panel will need some time to complete installation.
Just Dashes never told me about (3) different levels of quality. I believe they quoted me $575.00/door panel a couple of months ago plus shipping back and forth. I think the Al Knoch at $400.00/set are your best bet.
