Default 3 inch exhaust

Well! I think i'm going to just go to 3" all the way back on my 68. Which flowmaster mufflers are 30 series mufflers too loud for the street? I am running a 406, and I want it to sound nasty.

Not sure of the logic (if there was any intended) on the numbering of their series of mufflers. The 40 is the most common on the street and is (according to Flowmaster) louder than the 30.

I am thinking of installing a 3 Inch Magnaflow System in my 68 Camaro. Are there any clearance issues with a 3 Inch Exhaust System?

Not at all, that's exactly what I have, 3" Dr Gas X, and 3" magnaflows dumped at the axle. They fit as tight as my 2.5" did, maybe tighter. Patience or a good exhaust shop can make them nice and tight.
My buddy has 3" w 3" tails on his 67 vert, they fit fine though his hangs a bit lower than mine, not bad though.

10 series are probably the loudest, which are one chamber flows. I have them and love them. Much louder than 40 series. I can't comment on the 30 series. I haven't heard them in person.

I have 3" exhaust to a 3" X pipe with stage 1 flowmasters (1 chamber). initially it had turn downs at the rearend, it was insane loud. then I ran the tubes up and over with 45 deg angle just past rear tire and it is mean and loud but not insane. the 3" pipe will not fit between the gas tank and the quarter panel comfortable enough for me.

i would think the 30 series mufflers would be to restrictive for a high performance motor

But if you got a 69, the 3" pipe fits perfect between the q panel and the rear leaf.
Hey! Remember when even Harley's got tickets for loud mufflers? Now lots of them don't even have mufflers. Ah American thunder.

That works on 67-68 too, and you can have the nicer body style.....

Has any one tried or heard the Flowmaster Outlaw Series. They are
basically open header (above the one stage muffler). I'm looking for
"loud" but tech at Flowmaster said I'd be crazy putting them on the
street. He said go to the 1 chamber, as quoted above, it is loud. Just
wondering how loud each one in this post is. I have heard mufflers that
were posted and they seemed tame to me where as the poster thought
they were loud. Of course, opinions vary. Unfortunately, Flowmaster has
sound clips of their mufflers except the 1 chamber or Outlaw, the ones
I'm looking for. If any one has a sound clip of there car with either one
of these 2 mufflers, could you send or post it or email it directly to me
at bobh69@verizon.net Thanks for any responses!
PS - The exhaust will be coming out in front of rear tire, motor is a 540

BTW - my Father-in-Law put 3" Flowmasters out the back and the think sounds like a boat moter. The gurgling sound from lack of backpressure is rather disturbing. He is running a 450HP 383 for reference.

I will be going with 2.5 Flowmasters for my 427.

I have 3" 2 chamber flowmasters on my car. It is loud but not to bad. I had them dumped at the rearend but it blew dust everywhere. I ran them out the back and it is alot better now.

I have had them on the car for 10 years. Sounds bad with a blower motor also.

Mine doesnt sound like a boat either. LOL
