So I am almost done getting my 3" exhaust in. My tailpipes are 2 pieces, and i don't see a feasible way of putting them in as one piece. Where they connect, I can only get to about %60 pipes circumference. So I wouldn't be able to weld the entire circumference. Also there is a tight bend on each end of the connection, so a band clamp will be too long and won't work, as it will protrude into the bend. I really don't want to use one of those hokey "U clamps" but i need something narrow to clamp it down. Or can i just tack it there? it is about a foot away from the very end of the tailpipe,. One of the pipes has been expanded on the end so the other pipe fits snuggly inside of the other. I am wondering if i just tacked it, if it would leak, condsidering its already a tight fit and that it is so far down the exhaust? whadayathink?

Is your car on a lift or jackstands if its on a lift there should be no problem getting them in as one piece even on stands you should be able to put them in as two pieces connect them for correct fitment then take them out of the muffler being careful not to let them roll at the connection then let them hang while you weld the complete connection it really will be better if its welded alll the way around

They make a exhaust putty to stop leaks, you can put the putty inside the expanded end of one section then slide the other section in to it, then just tack weld it good in 3 spots, and youre done.
So its gonna be on the road soon?

It would be a bit more work, but if you drop the rear end everything would be wide open.Best to do it right the first time than wrong several times. If it comes to droping the rear end get the pipes in position then tack them just enough to hold then put the rear end back in to make sure you dont have any clearence issues ,3 inch tails are big and you dont want any rattles at all. if your sattisfied the pipes will clear then take it all back out weld your connection and then go back with it.Its alot of work but when its over you'll be glad you took the time to do it right. Also before final weld make sure your tips are where you want them.I hate seeing dual exaust thats not the same on both sides.

You could tack it in a few places to make sure its solid then drop the pipe as far as you can. You should be able to weld all the way around it if you can get just a couple inches clearance.
