I have a 68 camaro, 327, with DART heads. The engine has been professionally rebuilt, fully rollerized 400 + hp's. I'm using an Edelbrock Victor jr intake. I've installed it in the car and am putting the final touches to it so i can fire it up. I'm having a problem with the alternator bracket. It used to mount to the waterpump and to the intake manifold. With the new intake it does not fit. I called Edelbrock and they could only tell me that i would have to fabricate the bracket. I figured with all the small block chevy's equiped with victor jr. intakes that someone makes a bracket that will fit. I did find one place called March. Its a show piece and costs 180 bucks. I will buy this one unless someone knows of a bracet thats available. Thanks jim

I had the same problem, but found an inexpensive, clean, and super sturdy solution if your alternator is mounted on the LH side and you have accessory holes in the front of the head. Go to your local Chevy dealer and have them look up an alternator mounting bracket for a late 70's early 80's Corvette. There are two available, cast iron and aluminum. The aluminum piece is the trick way to go. You can tell the difference if you take a look at computer generated pictures; the earlier bracket (early 70's) that is made of cast iron has several protruding mounting bosses while the aluminum piece is smooth. Also get the adjustment brace (bending and drilling required to fit) and the belt guide. All of these pieces should run about $50. It can be polished, painted, or powercoated. On a scale of 1-10, it's a 9+.

carlc thanks for the info. I have a good friend who is a parts manager for the local chevy place. He can get the parts to me at his cost. Its really hard to find out what fits what, this site is a great place to get info. thanks again

I got to be good friends with my local parts manager as well. I'll bet that with all of the people in this forum we know just about every chevy parts manager around.

The hardest part is the adjustment brace. You will have to heat it to bend it to the correct angle to mount to the alternator and top accessory bolt hole. A small 1/2" 'z' bend will also help to align the brace. You will also have to cut and drill to the correct length. Please let me know your opinion on this mount after you have it all done.
