Double humps rule. Vortecs crack.Why use anything twenty years old.Use todays technology for a measly $1500(cdn)to get 40hp. Keep your stock heads and port them. It goes on etc, etc, etc. Give me your stories about real gains and real problems with heads , I could use your expertise.

i dont believe in high dollar heads either, i use s\r torkers from world ind. total cost 350$ complete(new guides, new steel seats, new springs) then i bought a book on how to port and polish and went to work on my old 327 heads, by the last cylinder i was geting pretty good. had a head guru look em over and was ready for the new heads. when i was done with the s\r torqers i took em too the pro s for aproval they said i did real good i guess theirs a few spots people tend to grind to thin beware. then i ported the exhaust port on the exhaust manifolds to match by painting a where the gasket w spray paint and bolting it up to see where to grind it.
i couldnt believe the power increase, did it all for cheep

Crash I am using dart sportsman heads, they will give you 80 more hosepower with out any porting and polishing. I have done and entry leel polishing job removing all flashing from the castings and polishing the intake and exhaust sides as smooth as a babys butt.I figure the more time you spend the better. I am Canadian as well and very $ conscience I did not want 30 year old technology Good luck Garry in Windsor.

I read somewhere that Bill Mitchell is having a big sale, Sportsman II heads are on sale for around $570 for a pair, compared to $850 list. Might be worth a look. I think it was an email I got actually.

I'll second on the Sportman II heads. They are a great all around head for the money.

I checked Bill Mitchell's website this weekend and didn't see any Sportman II heads on sale. All they had on sale were the S/R Torquer. If anyone knows were to get Sportman II this cheap, please let us know. I'll buy a set today.

Porting and polishing old double humps or any head for that matter is a good way to get about 20 more horses, but it takes nerves of steel and lots of patience, it took me 16 working hours to do my 2.20/160 double humps. I recommend packing a lunch when you decide to do it. But be careful all you first time porters, there are water jackets on the other sides of those runners and you dont need to grind too much or your screwed.
