Default Thoughts on 1969 Z28 Clone

Hi,
I am thiking about taking at look at this car and would like some impressions so I have something to go on. Also, besides rust, what should I look for?

Frank its not a bad deal, looks very reasonable to me.. But i would be more concerned on what the floor pan, trunk pan and frame/rails looks like to give the green light... If all looks good and its what your looking for then congrats.

I agree. Not a bad price.
Like Skip said - check the underside well.

Thanks guys.

I am not crazy about yellow, but it looks like it might be a clean car.
They seem to have no idea about the enigine other than small block.
I guess you'd have to check for something on the pad or if that's gone
then maybe a block casting number. Likely nothing special at any rate.

who cares about "correct intake valves" if it's not even a 302?

It's a clone so why worry about the numbers. Down the road it will probably show up as the real deal or maybe not.

I've never thought the value of a car is more because it's a "clone". I guess if the "Z-28" badges are worth $50, then add that to the price of the car. A "clone" is worth no more than a standard coup in my books. (unless it has a 302 which carries more value, but not even close to the real deal)

If you decide to take a look, then stand behind the car when you have the guy start it up. It could just be a shadow, but it looks like the car might be burning some oil or running rich or something. It looks like there is some "dark" staining just above the right exhaust.

I just talked to them and they don't seem to know great deal about it. Described it as good, but not excellent condition. Said it's probably a 350 and it has solid lifters. Judging by some of their other prices I expect it's going to be quite high for what it is. I'll take a run out there on Saturday.

Not really looking at the value as a clone, but more just for what's on the car. i.e. 4sp, 12 bolt, cowl hood, gauge package ect.

Both rear quarter panels look wrong to my eyes. Hopefully the photo in this link will help to explain my point - I'm comparing the yellow car to one that I think has original-looking quarter panels.

http://s404.photobucket.com/albums/p...er_media_share

The driver's side quarter panel is the worst offender. The corner on the leading edge of the wheel well is too sharp. (It should be more rounded.)

The passenger side quarter panel looks a little better, but it's still not quite right. The curve on the trailing edge is too flat.

Based on those details, I would guess that both quarter panels were patched with fiberglass and/or bondo rather than replacing them. Does anybody agree with me about this, or am I imagining things?

Will check in later to see the responses to the fender question. That could be the end for this one.

The yellow looks kinda light to be Daytone Yellow, but maybe it's the camera. Looks like a cross between DY and Butternut Yellow. Still a good looking car. Nice that it's got a 4 speed!

Just my opinion, but it looks to be sitting low in the rear, like there is weight in the trunk?

need to get it on a lift and poke around in all the dark spots, but other than whatever went-on around the windshield wiper switch, looks pretty good in the pictures.

The thing was decent, but to be real nice it would need a new paint job, front windshield, shifter and who knows what else. I could see maybe $22k, but the guy is asking for $5K more. I think I'd rather pay $25k-$30k for something done and maybe even with a big block.

They did have one damn nice '65 Vert Vette there, buy I was afraid to even ask what kind of staggering amount of money they wanted for it.
