I'm still trying to decide if I'm going with Koni or Bilsteins but can anyone tell me if I need to go with the mono or multi leaf versions? Right now I'm converting back to my JC Whitney 3 leaf. They fit on my stock mono leaf perches which is why I'm not sure which way to go.
For those of you that are using the JC Whitney 3 leaf, which shocks are you using? Thanks for the help. |

If you are not changing the bottom shock plate (under the spring) then you will have to get the mono-leaf shocks.
The top shock mount is the same for both.

ok i am the expert here now (not really) i have bee going through the same thing. the monroe gas matic shock # for stock setup, mono leaf is 55961. it is 12.125" compressed, 20.000" extended with 7.875" of travel. the upper mount is an S4 and lower is L1/CP3.
I am using a multi leaf axle, JCW 3 leaf springs, a 1 3/8" spacer and mono shock plates. at full extension (axle hanging) i had 21". I found the shock that had the correct lengths and mounting style for my car. that was #55803, 12.750" compressed, 21.500" extended and 8.750" of travel. it was a perfect fit and i am happy with it. I know you were not looking for Monroe #s but you can cross reference them to the brand you choose. BTW you didnt say what year your car was. mine is a 67 (non staggared shocks) the monroe and kyb books both listed the same # for mono or multi leaf and for 67-69. the difference being the bolt kit that comes with the shock. you use the stud style w/ spacer for multi plate and bolt for mono.

Thanks. I have a 68 that's mostly stock with the exception of the leaf springs and the KYB shocks. I just ordered the Bilsteins so we will see how those ride.
I converted the stock mono to I the 3 leaf 2 years ago and was never happy with the added height. So I ordered mono's off the web and it sits even higher. So I figured that I'd swap the shocks while I'm redoing the leaf springs for the 3rd time! Ed |
