Default What Air Cleaner? SB, HEI, SS Hood

Im trying to find an air cleaner for my car. Currently have nothing. I tried a 14" drop base Proform but the back was hitting the distributor. What will clear the distributor and hood on this car?

Small Block, Performer RPM Intake, GM HEI (coil on cap), Holly DP with no spacer, SS Hood.

Thanks!

mike ty a 1" aluminum spacer on top of your carb. it cleared my HEI distributor. i have a ZZ4 intake and a quadrajet. your drop base should work with the spacer.i have since replaced the GM HEI with a small cap pertronix and went to a repro cowl air cleaner. it also still needs the 1" spacer to get the seal to the hood.

I ran a small block with perf rpm w/ edelbrock carb, it's the same ht as a holley. I had room for a 1" spacer under the carb, it still cleared the ss hod.

Did you have HEI? And what was the diameter of the Air Cleaner? 12 or 14? And 3" Element?

350 S/B , SS hood , Holley 600 , 1/2 " carb spacer , Mallory HEI dist , no name 14" dia. 3" element drop base air cleaner leaves me with 3/4 " between the dist. and the air cleaner , just enough room for the wires.

Mike, I used the air cleaner I linked below on my 68. It has an offset base (hole is not in center of bottom) and is made to clear a GM HEI. It comes with an offset stud, and it basically just moves the air cleaner toward the front of the car around an inch. It is not real obvious.

My car had a regular Performer intake, but I think it is about the same height (Air Gap would be higher). The assembly above fit fine, with more than 1/2 to the bottom of the repro (non-molded) hood insulation on the SS hood.

I have non-digital photos that I could scan tomorrow if you want to see how it looks.

Didnt work. The secondary float adjustment nut is hitting it, keeping it from mounting flush to the carb... Im about to wig out. Everything on this car is fighting me to the very end...

Mine fit on a 4175 vac secondary spreadbore Holley, and I though the bowls were generally the same. How bad is it hitting? I will look online and see if I can find a DP pic to see which nut is hitting.

Mine was a 14 by 3", and it JUST cleared with the 1" spacer. I did have to trim the stud so nothing was abov e the wingnut.

Edelbrock sells a drop base that is 3/8" taller than a "normal one" that is what I used (with the 1" spacer) so I know it fits under the hood. That will get you off the needle and seat adjusters.

Edelbrock also sells a 1/2" spacer ring for the air cleaner, if you have the room, that would do it cheaper.

Here's the carb mine was on, and it looks like the same rear bowl nut/screw.
